The Unity of the People (UTP) will open nominations for the upcoming THA elections on Monday.

In a WhatsApp message on Friday, the party’s 31-year-old leader, Nickocy Phillips, said Unity of the People will be contesting all 12 electoral districts. Phillips, who hails from Buccoo Point, invited applications from interested candidates who are citizens and who live in the district they would like to represent.

Phillips said nominations run until 5pm on September 22. Those interested should e-mail the party at unityofthepeople01@gmail.com or unity.of.the.people2020@outlook.com with a letter of interest together with a resume, after which they would be contacted for screening.

Phillips, a Harmon’s Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) School past student, said people who want to drop in their applications should contact the party first.

“Our first concern in this time is the lives and wellbeing of all the citizens of TT in the fight against covid19," Phillips said.

Phillips, who unsuccessfully contested the Tobago West seat in the general election, said the party is open to all.

“Let not your heart be troubled. Leadership is about action, not positions and that’s what we all want to give to the people of Tobago...unity, accountability, transparency and equality for all."
