A Man of the Match performance from skipper Kieron Pollard kept the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) unbeaten at this year’s Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) as they delivered another convincing victory, this time by 23 runs, against the St Lucia Zouks, at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, in Tarouba, on Saturday.
Sent in to bat, TKR piled on 175 for five led by a half-century from Darren Bravo, another captain’s knock of 42 from 21 balls from Pollard and a valuable contribution of 33 from wicketkeeper/batsman Tim Seifert.
Topping the bowling for St Lucia Zouks was Scott Kuggeleijn (2/35) while skipper Darren Sammy (1/19), Zahir Khan (1/24) and Kesrick Williams (1/50) bagged one apiece.
In their turn at the crease, St Lucia Zouks had a fair start but could not match TKR’s batting consistency and were restricted to 152 for seven after their 20 overs. Andre Fletcher top scored with 42 off 27 balls (three sixes, one four) while Mark Deyal scored 40.
Nabi (17) and skipper Sammy (14) tried valiantly to chase the target but proved little too late for the St Lucia Zouks.
Pollard (3/35) also emerged the pick of the bowlers while Seales (2/21) and Dwayne Bravo (2/26) also produced fine spells.
TKR’s victory on Saturday saw them extend their unbeaten run of form to nine in as many matches.
They conclude their round robin matches at the same venue on Sunday against the already eliminated St Kitts/Nevis Patriots from 10am followed by St Lucia Zouks versus Jamaica Tallawahs from 2.15pm.
