Gopeesingh now home in quarantine

FORMER Caroni East MP Dr Tim Gopeesingh was discharged from hospital on August 30 and is now recuperating from covid19 at home.

In a post on his Facebook page, Gopeesingh said, "I am now significantly improved, and at home in quarantine in accordance with the public health requirements." Gopeesingh, a former education minister, thanked the "doctors, nurses, para-medical professionals and support staff for the professionalism and dedicated, efficient care and courtesy" during his time in hospital.

He also thanked his family, friends, colleagues and offered prayers and best wishes for his speedy recovery.

Gopeesingh told readers: "to please observe all the recommended preventative practices for your personal care and protection against the coronavirus."

He also wishe other covid19 patients, a speedy, healthy recovery.

On Thursday, Gopeesingh's former cabinet colleague Jack Warner was reported to be recovering from covid19. Warner, 77, unsuccessfully contested the Lopinot/ Bon Air West seat for the ILP in the August 10 general election.

In a post on Facebook on August 20, Gopeesingh confirmed he had tested positive for covid19, and said he was "in the State's medical care, where I am being very well managed." He did not say how he believed he had contracted covid19.

At that time, photos were shown on social media of Gopeesingh unmasked and surrounded by UNC supporters in a motorcade during the general election campaign. UNC leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar and former PNM minister Gary Hunt were in some of the photos he appeared in.

In a statement on August 21, the UNC said Persad-Bissessar was in good health and had not tested covid19-positive. The UNC also prayed for covid19-positive patients to have a speedy recovery.

Caroni East MP-elect Dr Rishad Seecharen said Gopeesingh did not interact with constituents during the election period, as he was stationed in the Tunapuna constituency. He could not say whether those Gopeesingh may have come into contact with during the campaign period should be isolated or tested.

Former health minister Dr Fuad Khan said there was no reason for anyone to raise undue alarm over the fact that Gopeesinghhad covid19.

"Having the virus does not indicate that it's a death knell."
