THE NATIONAL Library and Information System Authority (Nalis) has announced that walk-in library and information services have been suspended and only virtual services will be provided until September 21.

"In keeping with the Government's efforts to contain the spread of covid19...Nalis will only deliver services via its social media platforms and website from September 1," the authority said in a Facebook post.

Nalis said walk-in and library services are expected to resume September 22.

The authrity apologised for any inconvenience caused by the suspension of walk-in services, but said this was necessary "to protect our valued staff and library patrons."

Nalis said patrons could visit its website at www.nalis.gov.tt and Facebook pages for storytelling segments, workshops, book talks, authors' discussions, school resources, research materials, e-books and other resources.

Nalis also reiterated that its amnesty, under which overdue books/DVDs will accrue no fines or fees, has been extended to September 30.

It previously suspended public interfacing services from March 17 owing to covid19, and initially announced an amnesty up to May 1. This was subsequently extended to June 30 and July 31.

On June 29 libraries were reopened with limited services.

For assistance with research questions or queries patrons are asked to e-mail NALIS@nalis.gov.tt.
