ChildLine launches child protection app

The non-profit organisation ChildLine will launch an app in the coming days for children and young adults to access resources and organisations geared toward child protection.

In a release issued on Wednesday, it said the My ChildLine app will be an extension of the NGO, which offers services to anyone under 25.

“In response to the growing dependency on technology during the covid19 pandemic, ChildLine has found a way to adapt its outreach services and meet its mandates,” it said.

“In this regard, the My ChildLine app was created to reach children and young persons in need of care and support.’

The organisation’s services include a 24-hour helpline service for over-the-phone crisis intervention, an outreach service which helps to inform students, teachers, and parents on topics that concern children, and a counselling service which provides psychosocial support to vulnerable and at-risk children.

Users of the app will be able to access ChildLine’s helpline service, live webchat, and other psychosocial services.

The app also has features such as a read aloud selection of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in child-friendly language, GPS directions to spaces for safety, education, health, entertainment and a “ChildLine Arcade” with fun and interactive games.
