Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh has asked parents to keep up with their children's immunisation schedules.

He made the request during the ministry’s morning virtual press conference on Wednesday.

Deyalsingh said although the new school term will be virtual, parents should still take their children to be immunised.

“We are trying to prevent an outbreak of measles and mumps by asking parents to continue their immunisation schedule, even though you won't be asked for it to re-enter school.”

Healso warned of dengue during the rainy season, saying people should inspect their surroundings for possible mosquito breeding sites.

He said areas have been set up at health facilities for those presenting with viral symptoms, separate from the rest of the facility, and parents should not be concerned about contracting covid19 when visiting health centres.

“We are trying to preserve our public healthcare system. We don't want to add dengue on top of measles on top of covid19.”
