The south central zone of the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO) is hosting a three-hour telethon this Sunday called Because We Care. It will take place from 11 am to 2 pm on Wack 90.1 FM.

The telethon is being hosted to raise funds for members negatively affected by the covid19 pandemic.

TUCO’s PRO and chairman of the south central region Steve “Ras Kommanda” Pascall said all of TT has been at a standstill and this affected some members.

“We felt as an organisation….we needed to do something. Because you’re not getting any support from corporate TT in terms of where we sit.

“In San Fernando particularly, the business community does not really assist...does not support culture on a whole,” he said.

The organisation intends to distribute hampers to its affected members.

Pascall said the organisation was not seeking to raise a specific sum but hopes to help at least 50 members.

He added the pandemic denied many artistes an earning opportunity.

Viewers and listeners can look forward to hearing from some of calypso’s greats such as TUCO’s president Lutalo “Brother Resistance” Masimba and National Carnival Commission (NCC) chairman Winston “Gypsy” Peters. It will be streamed and pledges can be made live.
