AFTER reports that Olympic shot-put finalist Cleopatra Borel has dual citizenship with the US, her selection as PNM prospective candidate for Port of Spain South has effectively ended, Newsday was told on on Friday. PNM PRO Laurel Lezama-Lee Sing offered no details of Borel’s status but simply said the constituency executive has been asked to seek fresh nominees.

Lezama-Lee Sing said the PNM screening committee (which is usually chaired by the Prime Minister) met the Port of Spain South PNM constituency executive on Friday to give the go-ahead “to put out a call for new nominees.” She said screening will take place next week, possibly on Thursday.

Lezama-Lee Sing said those successfully selected are initially deemed prospective candidates, even as ever so often a matter may arise ahead of their final confirmation by the party.

Newsday was unable to contact Borel or constituency coordinator Chinua Alleyne.
