The city of Port of Spain celebrated the 106th anniversary of the restoration of its municipal rights with a thanksgiving service on Friday.

The service was officiated by the Very Rev Shelly Ann Tenia at Holy Trinity Cathedral Abercromby Street.

The theme was: “Resilience. A City in Recovery. A City Rebuilding. A City Rising”.

"We are glad that our capital city, Port of Spain, is celebrating another year in thanksgiving and prayer," said the mayor during his speech.

“Our rebirth to a new normal is a testament to the robust nature of our citizens that has developed over the past 106 years. Until now, we have successfully survived the fight against a deadly virus and this has led our nation and, by extension, our capital city to earn new respect in the eyes of the world."

Martínez thanked the people of Trinidad and Tobago for their prayers, which he said had collectively contributed to protecting the city.

"We continue to pray that our awakened community spirit contributes to our city recovering, our city rebuilding, our city rising up, our city being resilient, our city continued," he said.

Also present were aldermen and councillors and representatives of the police.

After the service, they walked to City Hall to close the memorial activities.
