Man arrested by police after chase through city

TWO officers assigned to the Port of Spain Division were, on Friday, praised by their seniors for their keen observation and swift response which resulted in a chain snatcher being arrested.

According to police reports the officers were driving along Queen Penny Commissiong Street around 2 pm when they observed a commotion and saw a man running. The officers, constables Cairon Hoyte and Lorenzo O'Brien, jumped out of the marked police vehicle and ran after the suspect. Police were later told the suspect had earlier robbed a 69-year-old woman of her chain at gunpoint.

The 17-year-old suspect was held at Lodge Place, East Dry River, Port of Spain with the chain worth $3,800.

The suspect was taken to the Port of Spain CID for questioning. Police did not recover a firearm.
