UNITED National Congress (UNC) political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has announced that UNC deputy political leader Jearlean John will be the party’s candidate for La Horquetta/Talparo.

She was speaking Thursday during the virtual political meeting.

John, former Housing Development Corporation managing director and former senator, was the UNC coordinator for the constituency.

Persad-Bissessar said she took full responsibility for the changes in the slate. She said that people have expressed concern that the young candidates were inexperienced but newness is great as there will be new ideas.

She added that those not selected should not feel neglected because there are thousands of spaces available in the new government. She said that 60,000 jobs were lost before the covid19 pandemic and 40,000 with the pandemic.

“The problem is not covid19. Rowley is covid2020. This year we have to eradicate Rowley and the PNM.”

She said the Prime Minister has been patting himself on the back regarding Government’s handling of covid19.

“Someone should remind him self praise is no praise.”

Persad-Bissessar said thousands of people have received no grant, hamper or salary relief grant despite reports that billions had been spent.

She said as a mother and grandmother she was hurt to hear about the murder of two year-old Aniah Mc Leod.

“What are you doing about crime?”

She said since last she spoke to supporters 32 people were killed and more than 2,379 were killed under this administration.

She also claimed that the Opposition had more documents on the Paria Fuel sale and the visit of Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez.

She alleged the fuel was sold for less than was paid for it.

“Uncle Sam is watching you. Any sanctions to come will not be on the people of TT but the officials (involved).”
