Economistsnot vital topoliticians

THE EDITOR: Economics is not an exact science as it is based on assumption and the factors of production (the forces that drive the economy) can change in the twinkling of an eye. I studied economics at A-Level at Elders but I am not an economist. What I possess is economic sense.

Governments do not listen to economists most times because they want to stay in power. Their budgets are normally political and have nothing to do with economics, especially in an election year.

Our Minister of Finance is a wonderful example of what politicking is. He is so uppity with himself that he does not understand what it is to be humble. People who are minimal in height very often use their mouth for mileage, like a certain announcer on a popular radio station, where I hear some of the most ridiculous utterances from both sides of the divide.

Budgets or economic reviews are merely political tools to brainwash the electorate. This government is going to win the general election, mainly because of its performance in dealing with covid19 and the astute leadership of the Prime Minister, with the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer, and to a lesser extent the Minister of Health; nothing else.

I know the PNM addicts will differ, but that’s their right.

There is nothing as negative growth, as some economists say, since growth can never be negative; growth is merely forward forever backward never.

The politicians confront economists when their political life is in trouble, but they normally throw the proposals in the thrash can, never to be used. Politicians love to steal ideas because some of them don’t have a clue about what is happening in their community.

If I only had my way...but I don’t, so I will shut my mouth. Take it away, PNM.

I am just thinking, though, about all those people who want to come home now. Let’s say covid19 had taken a completely different turn, would they still want to come home? Ha ha ha.
