THE TT Cricket Board (TTCB) will be staging a pair of T20 cricket championships – Over-40 and Over-50 divisions, with a tentative start date of July 25.
Over $50,000 will be at stake in both competitions, which will see the resumption of cricket in TT, following the easing of the covid19 restrictions.
Rajendra Mangalie, chairman of the TTCB marketing committee, said on Tuesday the TTCB is looking at 32 teams for the Over-40 section and 12 teams for the Over-50 category.
Matches will take place throughout TT, but Mangalie is mindful of the fact that the government will not be allowing spectators to attend local sporting events, until further notice.
“We have to follow the rules of the Government,” said Mangalie.
With regards to sponsorship of this tournament, Mangaliesaid, “It will take time because of the covid19. As chairman of the marketing committee, we’re still moving forward with this tournament.”
The TTCB marketing chairman said that the top 16 teams in the Over-40 section could feature in a regional event, once the borders are opened by regional governments.
