AN AMBUSH in La Romaine on Thursday night has left one man dead and two other people nursing gunshot wounds.

Police said that at about 7.45 pm, Shekeil Cardinal, Cindy Nathan and Gary Julian were about to leave a wake at Temple Street and were entering a Nissan B14 car when another car pulled up and two men wearing white T-shirts and masks, began shooting.

Cardinal who was from Temple Street, was shot multiple times and died at the scene. Nathan was shot in the chest and is now warded at the San Fernando General Hospital, while Julian of Union Hall, San Fernando was shot in the leg and was treated and has since been discharged.

Sometime later that night, police said, they tried to intercept a Nissan Sylphy car in the La Romaine area, but the vehicle averted the roadblock and a police chase ensued.

The car crashed at Grace Street and two men, who police believe were involved in the Temple Street shooting, alighted and ran off in different directions. A pistol was recovered in the vehicle. Up to press time, the search was continuing for the two men. Cardinal’s body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for an autopsy next Monday. Investigations are continuing.
