Two police officers and two soldiers appeared before a Port of Spain justice of the peace (JP) on Monday charged with common assault and misbehaviour in public office.

A police media release said the police officers Anthony Alert and Kadeem Cadiz, appeared before Stephen Young with soldiers Kevin Rawlins and Dane Williams. The four were jointly charged with common assault and misbehaviour in public office. They were granted station bail of $100,000 and are expected to return to court on September 16.

Investigations began after a video was shared online of the men forcing Moses Phillip to drink alcohol, do push-ups and run alongside the police car they were travelling in on March 29.

They were formally charged on Friday as advised by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
