Congrats to Govt on virus success

THE EDITOR: From my observations over the past two month of the behaviour of a sampling of the population, I can conclude that the success of the campaign against the spread of covid19 is largely due to the efforts of the Government and not the people.

In observing the behaviour of the public, I get the impression that everyone believes there is no virus around. People have been breaking all the guidelines the Health Ministry and the CMO have been putting out. Hardly any social distancing and, in particular, wearing of masks. Some people have been walking around with “bull face,” daring anyone to tell them something.

I have seen signs at business places saying “No masks, no service,” yet people without masks are being served. And people are eating their doubles right where they buy them without a word from the vendor.

Why are we afraid to tell people to do the right thing? I tell people to wear masks and pull up storekeepers and vendors. Having been a former city policeman, it comes natural.

So congratulations to the Government for getting its policies right and sticking to them. This is the sternest test any government can be put through when assessing its ability to run things. This is not a political plug. I am just giving kudos where due.
