An aspiring municipal policeman who allegedly tried to use a fake certificate of examination results on Saturday to get the job has been arrested.

The 32-year-old man, who lives in Sangre Grande, is expected to be charged with uttering a forged document.

Police said he applied for the position via e-mail as advertised. He was invited for screening at the Municipal Police Training Academy at Gopaul Lands in Marabella.

During the screening, he presented the certificate. It showed he obtained grade ones in mathematics, principles of business and social studies. It also showed that he got twos in English and human and social biology.

But a police report said on inspecting it, a traffic warden concluded that the document was not a genuine one issued by the Ministry of Education.

She notified ASP Belford as well as Fraud Squad officers in San Fernando.

The suspect was handed over to Cpl Lewis, and PC Kernahan visited the academy and seized the document.
