THERE is no bad blood between the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen and its former public relations officer Fuad Abu Bakr.

Abu Bakr spoke with Newsday on Friday on his dismissal which was relayed in a media release on Wednesday. The release said Abu Bakr no longer spoke on behalf or for the Jamaat. Lorris Ballack was elevated to the position temporarily.

In an interview, Abu Bakr said the decision was taken after differences of opinion “on the way forward” for the organisation.

Abu Bakr is the son of insurrectionist Imam Yasin Abu Bakr, leader of the Jamaat. The younger Abu Bakr turned up to be screened to as a PNM candidate for the Port of Spain South seat. Prompting political leader Dr Rowley to state that Abu Bakr was neither a member of the party or was selected to be screened.

Abu Bakr following the public embarrassment claimed that he was in talks with Local Government minister Kazim Hosein on being screened. One week later, Abu Bakr was removed as the PRO for the Jamaat. Asked if the two matters were connected, Abu Bakr, the leader of the New National Vision (NNV), said no.

“We are a family, a brotherhood. There is no issue between me and my father and there cannot be any bad blood between us because it is one blood. At the end of the day once the overall objective of a betterment of TT is maintained then that is all that matters. We have to look past the small issues.”

Abu Bakr said although he was dismissed, he will still be assisting the Jamaat in the public relations and will even assist in getting a permanent replacement for the post he once held.
