WHILE four out of five people who participated in a Marketing Facts and Opinions (MFO) survey expressed trust in the Prime Minister and the police, seven out of ten people described Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar as “Not very trustworthy.”

The survey, released on Tuesday, indicated that the people who had a higher trust in the government, also felt government put enough security measures in place to protect TT from covid19. In contrast, it pointed out that people who felt like there was a lack of transparency with the number of cases reported and tested for covid19 were more likely to trust the Opposition Leader.

Trumping both Dr Rowley and Persad-Bissessar was the medical team that stood on the front line against the disease.

The survey highlighted that nine out of ten people believed the hospital staff was capable of managing the pandemic.

MFO conducted the survey over a two-week period between April 27 and May 10. They provided a link to people in the MFO database through e-mail and their mobile phones. They also provided a link to people on social media. The survey was done by 367 people, 273 from the database, and 94 in the Facebook database.

“MFO considers this sample size with its characteristics to be adequate in providing a reliable indicative understanding of the national consumer sentiment,” the report said.

In the introduction to the survey, MFO said the purpose of the survey was to assess the perceptions of covid19 based on government response, the level of trust in leadership, front-line workers, the media, and general public. The survey also looked at purchasing behaviour.
