THE parents of double murder victims Kelton, 39, and Kenwyn James, 32, who were gunned down on Friday night in Les Coteaux, are placing their faith in the law of the land to get justice.

The fatal shootings of the brothers saw Tobago record its first homicides for 2020.

On Sunday, police arrested a 26-year-old Golden Lane man and his 27-year-old Trinidad girlfriend in La Horquetta, Trinidad, in relation to the murders.

Police said the couple left Tobago on Saturday and was being tracked by Special Operations Response Team (SORT).

The suspects were taken to the Besson Street police station where they are expected to be interviewed by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region I, as well as Tobago Homicide officers.

Molly Polson, mother of the deceased brothers, told Newsday on Monday, "It is in the hands of the police, let it stay there please… In Jesus name.”

The brothers' 63-year-old father, Wayne James, who resides at Spring Trace in Darrel Spring, said he is still coming to terms with their deaths.

“Their lives were taken away,” he said.

James said he was asleep when he received the call shortly before 11pm informing him of the tragedy.

“I was in my bed; I was so shock that I turned off my phone. I couldn’t take it.

“My mother always said when pain comes at night, lie down and sleep and deal with it in the day, else sometimes you could faint away or pass out.”

He added: “I understand life… when things happen like that do not cry and bawl and make it any harder… be loving and try to bring the family together. I also understand, death is something that none of us as human beings can bring back and you just have to deal with the matter and be back on your feet again… be loving and care for people all the time.”

The father believes the family will get justice.

“We need justice and is not just I calling for justice, it is the law of the country. Justice has to be made as long as you break the law and the law has been broken, so justice must be given.

“This is what the Government is there for, to give people justice and if you’re not giving justice, then we should vote you out and put somebody else in there who would give justice.”

Police say that around 10.30 pm the brothers were travelling in a white Hyundai H100 van TCA 3510 along Franklyn Road, Les Coteaux with one of their nephews, who reportedly got into a confrontation with some men earlier in the night when the attackers were spotted near Wise Choice Supermarket.

Reports suggest that Kenwyn, 32, who was driving the van, stopped the vehicle and the brothers approached the men, while the nephew remained in the vehicle.

Police said one of the men pulled out a gun and fired several shots at the men. The brothers slumped to the ground and died from their injuries. The gunman ran away.

District Medical Officer Dr Kumar visited the scene and ordered the bodies moved to the Scarborough Hospital Mortuary.
