Local researchers joint the fight against covid19

TT scholars and researchers have joined the worldwide fight to find a treatment for covid19.

At the Ministry of Health’s daily covid19 update, professor of Molecular Genetics and Virology and head of the department of Pre clinical Sciences at the Universities of the West Indies, Christine Carrington said a multi-disciplinary group of researchers at the University of the West Indies are putting together projects on covid19.

“There are not just doctors. There are also mathematicians, people who study geography, as well as virologists,” she said.

Carrington said research is not just needed on the virus itself, but also on the social impact of the virus as well.

She said local scholars have joined with international researchers on a range of viruses including dengue, chikungunya, rabies and viruses that affect livestock and wild life.
