Two Laventille men are in custody after they were arrested by Freeport police in relation to a robbery on Sunday night.

A police media release on Monday said a 52-year-old man, his 28-year-old son and two friends were at their Commonwealth Drive,

Nelson Road home, when a silver grey Nissan Tiida pulled up and two men got out.

One of the men had a gun and fired a shot. The victims ran away.

When one of the men returned to the house he realised his wallet, containing some cash and other items, was missing. Some cash was also stolen from the family business just opposite the house.

The family made a report and police in the area saw a Nissan Tiida and chased it.

During the chase the police and the bandits shot at each other.

The car was eventually intercepted and two men arrested on the northbound lane of the Uriah-Butler Highway by officers of the Freeport, Chaguanas and Cunupia CIDs with assistance from the Central Division Task Force.

Police are searching for a third man who got out of the car and ran across the highway.

During the chase a police officer was hit by a passing car and seriously injured.

All of the stolen items were found.
