Road flooded after Heritage tank ruptures

A tank has ruptured at Heritage Petroleum in Clifton Hill, Point Fortin after undergoing “hydrostatic testing,” leaving several areas of the premises and parts of the roadway flooded.

One worker told Newsday the incident happened at approximately 6pm.

Hydrostatic testing refers to the testing of pressure vessels for strength and leaks.

The worker said the tank (tank 27) was unable to “take the pressure,” and ruptured, flooding the car park, east gate area, entrance and exits and the contractors’ blast-resistant shelter.

The worker said this has never happened before.

“Atlantic initiated its emergency alert. We were told there were high volumes of water on the compound and we should either muster at an area or remain where we are.”

Another worker said the tank was being tested before oil was put in it.

Some workers had to be rescued by a large maxi taxi, and all are now safe.

Drivers are being asked to use alternative routes to get to the Clifton Hill area.
