Man shot dead after pointing gun at police

One man is dead after he allegedly pointed a gun at police on patrol in Morvant on Saturday night.

Inter Agency Task Force (IATF) officers were on patrol at Cipriani Avenue, Second Caledonia, Morvant, at around 10.30 pm when they tried to search a man.

The man ran into a building and up a staircase.
Police chased him and he allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officers who shot him and took him to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

One .9 mm pistol and ammunition were seized.
Police said they are still trying to establish the man's identity.
