HR expert McNish approved as Police Service Commission member

THE NOMINATION of human resource expert Courtney McNish as a member of the Police Service Commission (PSC) has been approved by the House of Representatives.

The Prime Minister presented the motion on Friday to approve the President's nomination of McNish as a member of PSC.

He said that McNish is a citizen who is a qualified citizen to hold the position.

"Mr McNish is an individual of very broad experience and highly qualified in very many areas that are suitable for appointment to this position."

He noted McNish has extensive experience in human resource management and industrial relations. He added he is a legally trained industry professional and is adept at analysing the current and emerging social, legal, technological and economic issues.

"This citizen, like many others, has chosen to put aside self and embrace service to the wider national community. Particularly at this time when persons who enter the public arena are frequently subject to all kinds of vilification and ridicule, sometimes for no good reason, sometimes for malice, spice and hatred, many citizens as qualified as Mr McNish shy away from public service. So when persons agree upon request to serve we, a grateful nation, should say thanks."

Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh in his response noted that McNish is one of his constituents and he expressed hope that with his addition there will be people confirmed as deputy commissioner of police.

"I presume the Prime Minister has in his possession why people have not been confirmed as deputy commissioner of police."

From 2008 to the present McNish has been CEO and principal consultant/advocate of Human Resource Technologies Ltd. in Chaguanas. His previous posts include VP of human resources at Caribbean Airlines in 2008 and Trinidad Cement Ltd Group HR manager from February 1997-2007.

With his appointment McNish joins PSC chairman Bliss Seepersad and fellow members Martin Anthony George, Commodore Anthony Stafford Franklin, Dr Susan Craig-James and Roger Kawalsingh.
