Border control key to stop second wave of virus

THE EDITOR: We need to devise strategies for effectively managing our borders.

Apparently thus far we have successfully managed the first phase of the epidemic on account of stern measures enforced by the government of TT.

One highly effective method was keeping our borders shut for a considerable period of time. However, good sense prevailed and nationals who were on cruises for leisure and business are now able to return. In light of the worsening trend of the virus that is now wreaking havoc in many parts of the world, it is wise for us to permit travel only for urgent matters and business

Many areas of the coast are seemingly porous to incoming migrants and would require a great deal of manpower and expertise.

We must not drop our guard from the strong possibility of a powerful wave of the virus.

We may be days or months away. No one knows except the creator. Our citizens have sacrificed a great deal. They have denied themselves of personal liberties and pleasure. Businesses are now financially crippled to the point that they cannot reopen. Hence, there is a significant number of job losses.

If we decide on allowing the free movement of people to and from our shores we may find ourselves in a far worse predicament than other countries that had done so.
