A TOTAL OF 3000 homes have been handed over to TT citizens since 2015, said Minister of Housing, Edmund Dillon on Tuesday.

He made the statement during a virtual random draw of names to be shortlisted for interviews from the Housing Development Company (HDC) which was broadcast live over multiple platforms.

“The housing programme, by its nature, touches every facet of human development. We hold to the premise that any investment made in the housing sector is a direct investment in our citizens and their families.

“We continue to fulfil, what I consider, one of the basic needs of man or woman – the provision of shelter. We have a duty to provide shelter to our citizens, especially in the low-income bracket.”

Some 500 names were selected at the draw from a list of people who applied for homes in Arima, Chaguanas and San Fernando.

Dillon said only citizens with a monthly income of less than $25,000 are eligible for state housing.

Manager of corporate communications at the Ministry of Housing, Dike Noel, told those selected that they would be contacted after auditors confirm the names and reference numbers.

He said, after the names and numbers are confirmed a list would be published in the newspapers after which they would be contacted for an interview.
