Relatives of missing man seek help finding him

More than three months after he was reported missing, police and relatives continue their search for 59-year-old coconut vendor Michael Francis. He was reported missing from his Peter Road, East Charlieville, Chaguanas, home on March 19.

Despite efforts by relatives and the police to find him, Francis' whereabouts are still unknown.

His niece, Afiesha Waterman, told Newsday on Tuesday she was concerned about his safety and called on the public to come forward if they had any information as to where her uncle may be.

"He doesn't have Alzheimer's or dementia or any disease that may affect his thinking or behaviour. He also isn't known to wander off or anything like that.

"He does have a heart condition that he was going to the doctor to see about, so we are concerned about his health wherever he may be."

She said Francis was not married and did not have any children of his own, but was occasionally visited by another relative who owned a business nearby.

Waterman said relatives reported him missing to the police and did their own investigations and questioned people in the neighbourhood on whether they noticed Francis and what direction he was last seen walking in.

She said while some residents confirmed seeing him on the night of March 19, they could not say where he went or if he was taken away by someone else.

"He doesn't have a cellphone or anything. We are just hoping that we find him safely."
