Man jailed for gun on bed

A POINT Fortin man has been sentenced to 24 months in jail after police found a loaded gun on a bed at his home. The man, 50, who lives at Second Street in Techier Village, pleaded guilty at a virtual hearing last Friday, before Point Fortin magistrate Alicia Chankar.

At about 4.30 pm last Thursday, Sgt Ali together with other officers of the Point Fortin CID, the South Western Division Task Force and the Canine Unit searched the house, having obtained a warrant.

They found a revolver with six rounds of ammunition on a bed. The male occupant was arrested and PC Oganshaye of the Point Fortin CID later charged the scaffolder with unlawful possession of a firearm and six rounds of ammunition. Afetr the facts of the case were read out, the magistrate sentenced the man.
