A Carenage man is dead after he reportedly pointed a gun at police who confronted him at his home on Wednesday afternoon.

Police said a joint army-police patrol went to the home of Anthony Skinner at Smith Hill, Carenage, at around 12.45 pm to search for guns and ammunition.

Police called for Skinner to open the door, but he did not answer.

When they went in, they saw Skinner pointing a gun at them.

Police shot him several times and took him to the St James Infirmary, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police found a camouflage pistol. They also found a dismantled shotgun in a bag inside the house.
