THE PNM will screen nominees for seven constituencies in the upcoming general election on Tuesday at Balisier House and Queen's Hall, party PRO Laurel Lezama told Newsday.

The nominees include party general secretary Foster Cummings who is the sole nominee for the marginal seat of La Horquetta/Talparo whose incumbent MP Maxie Cuffie has decided not to stand for re-election. Prior to the 2015 general election, this seat was held by the UNC's Jairam Seemungal.

Lezama said the PNM is also screening two incumbent MPs for their constituencies, namely Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly for St Ann’s East, plus former public utilities minister Ancil Antoine for D’Abadie/O’Meara.

Lezama said on Tuesday the PNM will also screen nominees for Lopinot/Bon Air West, whose incumbent MP, Planning Minister Cherrie-Ann Crichlow-Cockburn, is reportedly not standing for re-election.

The party will screen nominees for four constituencies now held by the Opposition, namely Mayaro, Oropouche East, Oropouche West and Princes Town.

As for before, the screening committee chaired by political leader Dr Rowley will split into two groups in line with covid19 guidelines and meet nominees at the two venues mentioned. The party will on Tuesday announce its prospective candidates for Moruga/Tableland and Siparia.
