Fisherman charged with neighbour’s murder

A 25-YEAR-OLD Moruga fisherman is expected to face a Princes Town magistrate on Tuesday charged with the murder of one of his neighbours.

Gardner and father of four Damien Mollineau, 40, of Edward Trace in Basse Terre Village was shot and killed in his garden, near his home, on December 26, 2019. With his last breath, he allegedly told his brother who killed him.

Mollineau, also called Dongrow, died on his way to the Princes Town District Health Facility.

Police arrested the villager the same day. After a few days in custody, police released him without charge pending further investigation. When the suspect returned to his home, a wooden shack, it had been damaged by a fire. Police believe the fire was deliberately set.

On May 18, police rearrested the villager who gave an additional address at Rancho Quemado Road in Erin.

Under the supervision of Insp Persad and Sgt Elvin, Homicide Bureau Region III police compiled a file which PC Kyrn Lewis submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in San Fernando over the weekend for instructions. The DPP later ordered police to formally charge the suspect with murder.

PC Gaffar was expected to lay the charge.
