Video series highlight protected areas

A series of video features which focus on local protected areas was launched on local television stations in TT on May 22. The series is a product output of the Improving Forest and Protected Area Management in TT project, which is being implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization on behalf of the TT Government. The launch was set to coincide with the observance of the International Day of Biodiversity.

The features, which each are seven to nine minutes in length, focus on five natural spaces that are important to the conservation of local biodiversity and for the provision of ecosystem services to the nation. The five features are entitled:

All Ah We Own –The Main Ridge Forest Reserve – featuring the oldest forest reserve in the Western Hemisphere, the Tobago Main Ridge Forest Reserve;

All Ah We Own – North East Tobago marine area – focused on the coastal/marine area’s biodiversity and livelihood linkages;

Canopy to Coast – featuring the Matura National Park Environmentally Sensitive Area and nearby coastal zone;

The Hidden Nariva – highlighting the country’s largest freshwater swamp, the Nariva Swamp;

Three Sisters – exploring the lesser-known Trinity Hills Game Sanctuary and Victoria-Mayaro Forest Reserve.
