The Success Central Community Council (SCCC) of Success Village, Laventille, on Wednesday delivered 100 hampers of food for the most needy in its community.

Council chairman, retired police commissioner Terry Young, speaking with Newsday, said, in addition to food, people received medication such as Omega 3 at the Success Central Community Centre, on Marcella Street.

“It is the second distribution of hampers that we've made during the quarantine. The objective is to be able to help the most vulnerable families in the Laventille area,” he said.

The distribution of bags started at 2 pm and ended an hour later.

The beneficiaries were organised by a team of six collaborators, including SCCC Vice President Robert Hernández and two police officials who accompanied the process and ensured physical distancing and the use of masks.

Young explained that the food was collected through the Foundation for the Enhancement & Enrichment of Life.

He said the council has been working closely with police as well as with churches and other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support residents in difficult times and in their personal growth.

"In the first exercise, 55 hampers were distributed, now 100, we hope to continue helping with the support of everyone."
