Jason "JW" Williams

SOCA star turned politician Government Senator Jason “JW” Williams was asked to leave the Senate after his smart phone went off.

Williams, who is the PNM candidate for the key marginal seat of Barataria/San Juan, found himself temporarily leaving the chamber during his second sitting since replacing former public utilities minister Robert Le Hunte.

During the period of urgent questions, Senate President Christine Kangaloo rose in annoyance to complain of a noise from aphone.

“I am hearing someone’s cellphone. Can you all not give me a gift for one day, please, and just not let a cellphone go off? Just...That’s a gift to me.

“Can the member, the senator whose cellphone it is, please leave the chamber. Please leave the chamber. You can return in ten minutes' time.”

Williams, who jointly hit soca fame with his 2010 hit Palance, calmly rose and left the chamber.
