Questions over Le Hunte's resignation

THE EDITOR: The metered explanation for the sudden resignation of Robert Le Hunte from the Cabinet of Dr Rowley does not seem to read too right.

Le Hunte has been a member of the PNM for more than 30 years and would have interacted with Rowley since the early days of the Manning government.

Indeed, the friendship and confidence between both caused Le Hunte to take early retirement from his prestigious position as executive director of Republic Bank in Ghana to serve in the Rowley Cabinet.

In his unbridled haste and exuberance to serve Rowley, Le Hunte forgot to renounce his newfound Ghanaian citizenship. This caused quite an embarrassment to the administration but gladly for the Government was settled and in entered TT citizen Le Hunte.

The questions that arise following the resignation are:

Was a serial policy conflict enough to cause a seasoned professional as Le Hunte and a seasoned politician as Rowley to part ways?

Were there fatal differences of opinion between Le Hunte’s road map team and that of the all-powerful Minister of Finance?

Was Le Hunte seen as a voice of the business community?

Was Le Hunte’s views on the performance of the Minister of National Security at variance with the fawn-like praise of Rowley?

Has the old PNM been hijacked by the Young PNM?

Has Rowley cracked under the Venezuelan gas issue and lost control of his Cabinet mere weeks before a general election?

Is it a combination of all of the above?

Only time will tell!
