Soca artiste among 15 ticketed for speeding

A soca artiste together with 14 other drivers received tickets from police for speeding on the Uriah Butler Highway on Saturday night.

The 31-year-old man was driving at 128 kilometres per hour, exceeding the speed limit by 28 km/h in Chaguanas.

PC Abraham issued the ticket to the singer who did not give an excuse for speeding.

Officers of the Traffic and Highway Patrol branch at the Freeport police station conducted the exercise. It was supervised by Insp Maharaj and Sgt Ramroop together with the assistance of Cpl Lukool and PC's Seerattan, Budhoo and Balkissoon and other police.

The exercise started around 8 pm and ended two hours later.

Each driver has to pay $1,000 for the traffic violation.

According to the new traffick ticketing system, exceeding the speed limit carries fines ranging from $1,000 to $3,000 depending on the excess beyond the limit.
