Traffic police out in full force on Butler Highway

Members of the Freeport Traffic and Highway Patrol said they intend to keep close watch over the highway while stay-at-home measures remain in effect, and will clamp down on errant drivers for speeding and dangerous driving.

Speaking with Newsday on Friday, police said 20 penalty tickets were served to drivers for speeding between 5 pm and 7 pm on Thursday, on the northbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway in Charlieville.

They said they returned to the same area on Friday between 9 am and midday, when they issued another 15 tickets for speeding.

Officers said the exercises were in response to a mandate from the Police Commissioner to maintain a greater presence and vigilance over the highways.

Both exercises were led by Snr Supt Ramkhelawan. Field exercises were done by Insp Maraj, Sgts Ramroop and Sooknanan and Cpls Kaiser and Lulkool.
