Three held for sexually assaulting girls

Three men were arrested and charged for the sexual assault of three girls in three separate incidents.

A police media release on Friday said the men, 18, 25 and 48, appeared before magistrates in Arima and Scarborough to answer the charges.

In the first incident, police from the Northern Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) investigated a report that a ten-year-old girl was sexually assaulted.

WPC Alleyne of the Northern CPU investigated and arrested the 48-year-old man on Thursday. He was charged with one count of sexual penetration of a minor.

In the second incident, members of the Tobago Division CPU arrested the 25-year-old man after it was alleged that he sexually assaulted two 15-year-old girls. He was charged with five counts of sexual penetration of a child and two counts of engaging in a sexual activity in the presence of a child.

In the third case, a 12-year-old girl reported to the Tobago CPU that she was sexually assaulted by a man. This led to the arrest of the 18-year-old. W/Cpl Clarke laid the charge of one count of sexual touching of a child.

Police are urging parents to be vigilant and ensure their children’s safety.

They also announced that a social media campaign will be launched soon to inform parents, guardians and children on ways to protect themselves from abuse.
