800 people get hampers at Living Water
This Friday, the Living Water Community (LWC) delivered 800 hampers of food to needy people at its Port of Spain building.
It was the fifth distribution by the LWC from its base on Frederick Street.
Some people lined up in vain and did not receive help. They began to arrive from Thursday night to secure their places.
Around 20 police officers ensured physical distancing in the line. A police team stayed until 4am and another group replaced them until the end of the process, which lasted from 6am-9am.
Around 40 LWC volunteers were again inside the building serving the community.
Breakfasts, sanitary measures and a leaflet with information on the LWC accompanied the hampers.
An LWC official speaking with Newsday said the hamper distribution will continue on Fridays.
Food is donated by individuals, companies and other organisations to help some of the people most affected by the covid19 restrictions. The LWC continues to accept donations at its headquarters on upper Frederick Street Monday-Thursday from 8am-4pm.
