How about setting up a food bank?

THE EDITOR: Each day I am saddened to read/hear about the countless number of people in this country suffering from a lack of basic necessities to support a decent life, as is the entitlement of every human being on Earth.

It was quite disturbing to see the vast number of people awaiting a hand-out from a certain section of the Muslim community during this pandemic, casting off caution to be able to provide a meal for their families.

While we judge those individuals and, yes, we should obey the law, we truly do not know the depth of their despair and pain. It can be said more people in this country might die from hunger and starvation than the dreaded covid19. Any which way it is a no-win situation for some of us.

It is also a reflection of the minds and hearts of those who are in a position to do good but remain inactive. It reflects the true nature of some of our corporations, banks, religious organisations, supermarkets, etc, to come together and help alleviate this level of hardship.

Why must it always be about the dollars and cents over human dignity? Truly we need to adopt a different approach when we have people crying out for help and all the while these same people have been supporting these organisations and corporations each and every day.

Can the powers that be look into having a food bank to ease those in desperate need?

To the Government, why all the bureaucracy? Is all this paperwork really necessary in a time like this to access a grant? Why is help not reaching those people in a timely manner?

May God help us all.
