Ancil Dennis, 33, has been sworn in as Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA).
President Paula-Mae Weekes administered the oath of office on Tuesday during a simple ceremony at President's House, St Ann's.
Deputy Chief Secretary Joel Jack and Secretary for Health, Wellness and Family Development Tracy Davidson-Celestine witnessed the ceremony.
The Buccoo/Mt Pleasant representative, who recently served at Assistant Secretary in the Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development, is the fourth Chief Secretary of the THA and the youngest to attain the position.
Speaking afterwards, Dennis said: “I am extremely humbled as well as heartened to be given this opportunity to serve the people of Tobago. I know that it is a Herculean task but I believe that I have been prepared for such a time as this.
"I am not daunted and I am confident that with the support of my colleagues and the people of Tobago, we will continue to move Tobago in the direction we want it to go.”
He also thanked former chief secretary Kelvin Charles for his contributions to the development of Tobago.
THA chief administrator Bernadette Solomon-Koroma said, “It is a pleasure to welcome Mr Dennis to the Office of the Chief Secretary. I look forward to working with him and expect that he will bring his own unique style, infused with youth and passion to the operations of Office of Chief Secretary. I wish him all the best in his tenure.”
