JOGGERS, walkers and cyclists turned up in their numbers to get some much-needed exercise on Monday afternoon, at the Queen’s Park Savannah and Lady Chancellor Hill in Port of Spain, after Government allowed exercising in public, once people continue to practise physical distancing.

People were seen at the Savannah and Chancellor Hill on the first day of Phase I of the revamped guidelines for the covid19 pandemic.

National men’s indoor hockey coach Raphael Govia was among a group of cyclists at Chancellor Hill.

“I’m happy to be back out, after a month and a half inside,” said Govia. “Especially as an athlete when you’re accustomed being outside training and keeping fit. Being in quarantine was tough but we had to do it.

“Today was a lot of people back out. The hill was quite congested. You can tell that everybody’s eager to get out and (do) some outdoor activity.”

Also at Chancellor Hill, a walker, who only identified himself as “John” said, “It feels good, being indoors for so long was tough but I’m glad to be able to stretch my legs again.”

At the Savannah, runners were elated to have the opportunity to engage in physical activity.

According to Jesse Mohammed, “It felt like an eternity, just doing light exercises at home. I’m happy to be here.”

And Alicia Jackson said, “It will take a while for my body to get accustomed, but I’m pleased to get back outside again.”
