The Living Water Community continues to receive food donations to give to the local vulnerable population.

Hampers will be distributed again this Friday from its base on Frederick Street in Port of Spain.

LWC officials told Newsday yesterday that its helpers are accepting donations from individuals, families, businesses and charitable organisations that want to support the programme.

The LWC office is open from 8am-4pm.

Most donors are buying prepared hampers from supermarkets and bringing them to LWC for distribution.

Their distribution to those most in need was stepped up because of the covid19 lockdown and the fact that many workplaces and businesses were shut down as a result and people had lost sources of income.

Last week LWC delivered hampers on three days. On Monday and Wednesday they distributed 400 bags each day.

On Friday the police decided to stop the delivery because the rules on social distancing were being broken. At that point the LWC had given out 800 bags.

People had lined up from 10.30 the night before in the hope of getting a hamper.

On Friday morning the LWC will again have police support. It is estimated that about 1,000 people will benefit.

The hampers are distributed only to locals.

Refugees receive aid through different NGOs based on zoned lists.
