One covid19 patient possibly came into contact with 50 people before being diagnosed.

This was revealed by Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram at the May 7 covid19 press briefing.

Parasram said he got personally involved in the contact tracing for some of the cases, including the 116th case.

In one contact tracing case, within ten to 11 days after the patient showed signs of an infection and confirmation of covid19, the doctors were able to find 50 people with whom that covid19 positive patient had been in primary, secondary or tertiary contact.

These contacts, the CMO said are being followed up twice a day to ensure they do not show any fever symptoms, and they are quarantined.

“I am genuinely satisfied with the way it has been done.

"However, we always have this hidden contact…and that is where the concern comes from in any case."

Hidden contacts such as via supermarkets where multiple people touch the same trolley still remain a risk.
