CAN Bou Play Foundation (CBP), a mentor and education organisation run by professional footballers, has partnered with other stakeholders to offer food support in the form of hampers to those in need during these tough economic times caused by the covid19 pandemic.

CBP received a grant donation from GlobalGiving, in partnership with 3M, to provide the hampers, and collaborated with Hesed House and members of the Police Service to work out the distribution logistics.

"I'm grateful to be able to work with GlobalGiving and 3M and of course our friends at Hesed House for giving us, and me the opportunity to help out in my community and the other communities too," said CBP founder Akim Armstrong. "We get to basically do something that we always loved doing which is helping out in whatever way that we could and now people really need that bit extra."

Fifty hampers were distributed last weekend to needy families of the children who are part of CBP and the US Embassy's Safety Pitch after school programme,in Diego Martin, as well as to families in the hometown communities of CBP founders such as Maloney, St Ann's and Belmont. Arrangements are being made to have another distribution within the next two weeks.

CBP CEO Amiel Mohammed is extremely grateful for all the support towards the initiative and encouraged others to help out those less fortunate directly or by supporting similar NGOs and social organisations.

"We have been blessed to be able to provide some relief to those facing difficulty right now," said Mohammed.

"We continue to be inspired by hearing the stories of organisations and individuals who are making a positive difference. Especially during these times, it’s important to see positive news and be inspired."

"Sometimes it's easy to get stuck in apathy. Even some of the (Can Bou Play) guys have found ourselves there from time to time. That's why it's important to support each other when we are surrounded by negatives. That little bit of inspiration goes a long way."

Mohammed also outlined that those wishing to support their food hamper drive or those wishing to assist a particular family and don't know how to, can contact them at 755-3734 or canbouplayfoundation@gmail.com.

The Foundation would also like to invite individuals who have used tablets and laptops to donate them to the Can Bou Play's education drive overseen by member Brendon Creed. These items will be distributed to students from the Safety Pitch programme who need them to be able to access online learning platforms.
