Mother of 3 killed in Sunday accident

A MOTHER of three is dead after a car accident along the North Coast Road, near Maracas Bay early on Sunday morning, with several others being wounded and having to be taken to hospital.

Just what Crystal Julien, 28, was doing in a van with others at 4 am, during covid19 stay-at-home restrictions, is now being investigated amid unconfirmed reports swirling on social media about an unauthorised beach party in Las Cuevas.

Julien, 28, of Ninth Street, Barataria was traveling in a van with about six other passengers — some sitting in the van’s tray — when it ran off the road, flipped and crashed into a ditch. A video circulating on social media, believed to be taken from the accident scene, showed medical officials assisting the injured passengers.

In the video, a woman is seen lying motionless, while another woman cries out in pain with cuts and bruises about her body. Another man sustained a major wound to the head and another man and woman were lying next to each other.

Julien's brother Brian, told Newsday the entire family is in a state of shock. “We are just holding on and holding strong for the moment,” he said.

He described Crystal as a kind, friendly, and loving mother. “On Saturday she said she was going out with her cousin and she would be back home in the morning,” he said. He said the family is disturbed by pictures and short videos of the accident being shared on social media of the accident.

“In a way it's hurtful, I don’t like it to be like that,” he said adding he knew nothing about his sister being on her way home from a party when she was killed. “I don’t know if it’s a party she was going to, remember, she said she was going by a cousin in Las Cuevas.”An autopsy is expected to be done on Monday. Up to press time, the condition of the other people hurt in the accident was not known.
