Police are hoping for a breakthrough in their investigations into an incident in which a pensioner was found dead with a rope around his neck at his home at King’s Wharf in San Fernando on April 3.

Shaheed Mohammed, 66, also called “Bobo” and “Headzie Man”, was found dead in a sitting position on a mattress in his wooden shack. Police interviewed several people but have not received any “fruitful information.” Investigators ruled out robbery as there was money in pockets.

An autopsy at the Forensic Sciences Centre in St James revealed he was beaten and strangled. Up to Wednesday, police were awaiting a toxicology report regarding the death. Mohammed, a fisherman, was not married and did not have any children.

Mohammed, an uncle of 19, previously lived with one of his brothers, Ralph, at Piparo but moved to the house a few months ago after that brother died. Mohammed was buried at the Roodal Public Cemetery on April 8 after a funeral service led by pastor David Ramnarine at Guide’s Funeral Home in San Fernando.

Police from the San Fernando CID and the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (Region III) are investigating. Police are urging anyone with information to call 999, 555, 911, 800-TIPS or contact any police station. People can also text/WhatsApp the Police Commissioner at 482-GARY or report it via the TTPS App.
