Boy, 16, on gun and assault charges

A 16-year-old boy from Basse Terre Village in Moruga was expected to face a Princes Town magistrate on Friday charged with five offences including assault.

Police charged the boy with having a gun, two counts of common assault, assault by beating and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The charges stemmed from an alleged incident on Thursday near the family’s home.

Moruga police went to the house at about 11.30 am after receiving a report.

Supt Maharaj and ASP Theodore-Persad co-ordinated an exercise, supervised by Insp Prescott and Sgt Lewis with the assistance of PCs Vilava and Phagoo and other officers from the Southern Division.

They found a 12-gauge shotgun in some nearby bushes and seized the gun.

PC Phagoo laid the charges on Friday.
