5 temporary judges appointed
FIVE new judges have joined the roster in the High Court.
On Friday, the five – Justices Halcyon Yorke-Young, Nirala Bansee-Sookhai, Jade Rodriguez, Josephina Baptiste-Mohammed and Delisa Noel Christopher – received their instruments of appointment and were sworn in by President Paula-Mae Weekes at President’s House.
Theirs were temporary appointments and they will all act in the Family and Children Division, the Judiciary said in an e-mail.
Newsday understands that also appointed were Masters Tricia Bhagwandeen-Sadho and Marissa Ramdass. Kerri-Ann Oliverie was appointed registrar.
Strict covid19 protocols were observed during the swearing-in ceremony. No guests were allowed to accompany the new judges who were seated six feet apart in a separate room until it was their turn to be sworn in. There was also no post-ceremony reception and Weekes left President’s House immediately after.
On hand to witness the ceremony was Chief Justice Ivor Archie.
